FIRNED Framework
The Fourth Industrial Revolution National Economic Development Framework (FIRNED-Framework) is a comprehensive initiative-based framework developed by FIRCAD to guide African countries in identifying and implementing specific initiatives, programs, and projects (4IR Economic Development Initiatives (FREDIs)) to support the development of their 4IR economy. The framework provides a structured approach to drive economic growth, innovation, and inclusive development in the context of rapid technological advancements of the 4th industrial revolution.
The FIRNED-Framework provides a comprehensive roadmap for African countries to navigate the complexities of the development of their 4IR economy. By categorizing initiatives into the FIRNED Pillars, the 4IR economy policymakers and stakeholders of African countries can prioritize their actions, allocate resources effectively, and ensure a coordinated approach toward achieving their nation’s 4IR-driven economic development policies, strategies, and priorities.
Furthermore, the framework encourages a holistic and inclusive approach by addressing both foundational development initiatives and sector-specific strategies. This ensures that the necessary infrastructure, skills, and policies are in place while also promoting innovation, digital transformation, and collaboration in implementing superstructure development initiatives as well as other cross-cutting 4IR national economic development initiatives and programs.
The successful implementation of the FIRNED-Framework requires active participation and collaboration among governments, private sector entities, academia, civil society organizations, and international partners. By aligning their efforts and leveraging the synergies between the pillars, African countries can unlock the transformative potential of the 4IR economy, foster sustainable development, and improve the lives of their citizens.
The Pillars of FIRNED-Framework
The FIRNED-Framework organizes its Fourth Industrial Revolution Economic Development Initiatives (FREDIs) into three categories, known as the FIRNED Pillars. These are the:
- 4IR Economy Foundational Development Pillars;
- 4IR Economy Superstructure Development Initiatives Pillars and
- 4IR Economy Development Cross-Cutting Supporting Initiatives Pillars.
